For many Junior League organizations, alumni committees, women's auxiliaries, and thousands of would-be cookbook authors, this is the guide they've been waiting for. Experienced Junior League cookbook publishers themselves, the authors discuss packaging an idea to attract a publisher and successfully marketing it; editing recipes for clarity and attractiveness; and how to write an introductory letter and prospectus to a publisher. In each case, they illustrate their points with examples of cookbooks that range from regional moneyraisers to The Joy of Cooking. They also consider the pros and cons of self-publishing, including how to find a printer and how to set up a business filing system. All they leave out is the basic idea, which is, of course, up to the reader. February

Yet another book on how to write and publish a cookbook. Hays, Rolfes is a firm that specializes in publishing community cookbooks. Their book is readable, informative, and serious in tone. However, the material is much the same as that in Sara Pitzer's How To Write a Cookbook and Get it Published. Either title is a good choice for public libraries, but most collections will not need both. Connie Chambers, Perrot Memorial Lib., Old Greenwich, Ct.
